Wired magazine's Game|Life reports that NASA is working on the development of a Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) learning game.

The goal of this virtual world is to create a "synthetic environment" that could serve as "tools for teaching a range of complex subjects," giving users experience with pertinent scenarios such as "chemical reactions in living cells, practice operating and repairing expensive equipment, and experience microgravity."
